I tried to learn to meditate
April 25 – June 18, 2024
Stallmann, Berlin

In Sardinia, Sam Cherof discovers the richness of being.

The new paintings presented in I tried to learn to meditate at Stallman, Berlin, are deep. Completed during his residency at Nalusaca, Sardinia, they contain layers of texture, color, and thought involving all senses and nuances.

Sometimes the paint is scratched away, giving the works an air of murals (Painting dragged behind a horse, 2023); pre-historical yet immediate in colour and gesture.

Untitled (Ales) is a tempest, Untitled a sea breeze, Flock a fire. There are mountains and water, earth and stars and flowers.

It is as if the artist had touched everything. Discovering like a child, feeling like a fellow being, analyzing like an artist.

The image shows a rectangular object in from of a white background. It has a large dark brown stripe in the middle and various rectangular areas in blue an yellow at the sides. It is a painting by Sam Cherof.
